20 March First Day of Spring Starts Thursday,First Day Of Spring 2020 Comes Early

The vernal (Spring) equinox marks the start of Spring and will happen on Thursday, 19 March across the Northern Hemisphere.

Here's some good news for you: Spring will be amongst those in the Northern Hemisphere earlier than it has been since 1896.

OLD HABIT OF PREDICTING EARLY SPRING THROUGH A GROUND HOG SHOULD BE REPLACED BY AI ANIMAL.

Typically, the March equinox falls on March 20th or 21st, and this year's earlier date is due to "complicated reasons for 2020's earlier equinox involve leap years, centuries and the length of time it takes Earth to revolve around the sun," wrote News. This year marks Spring arriving "earlier than any other equinox in the last 124 years" as per AccuWeather.

Spring begins today in America. Good.

Perhaps you learned as a child that the spring equinox — when day and night are roughly the same length — occurs on either March 20 or March 21.

Indeed, the equinox has historically fallen on one of those dates. Perhaps you are mildly surprised to learn that March 19 is the first day of spring. This is the first time in 124 years the first day of spring has occurred on March 19 nationwide, irrespective of time zone even the graphics on the National Weather Service's website have yet to catch up with the new reality.

The precise timing of the equinox will occur at 11:50 PM EDT on Thursday, 19 March, exactly when the Sun's rays will shine directly on the equator. So you can expect each day in the coming three months to have more and more daylight as the Sun gets higher in the sky, all the way until June's Summer solstice.

Thursday is just one of the two days in the entire year when the Earth's axis isn't tilted toward or away from the Sun. The other equinox day happens in September, as Autumn begins. giving us almost exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness almost everywhere on Earth.

The word equinox stems from two Latin words: aequus (equal) and nox (night), and means "equal night," as per the National Weather Service.

Moreover, the equinox is also one of the two days where almost everywhere on Earth experiences an almost exact due East sunrise, and due West sunset.

For meteorologists, it's a different story as they define the seasons differently, with Spring having begun on March 1st. There's a level 1 out of 5 for severe weather for the interior sections of the Northeast. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, Thursday will mark their Autumnal equinox, marking the first day of Autumn.

"We could also see flooding from the Deep South through the Ohio Valley," Ward said. "Rainfall will generally only be in the 1- to 2-inch range. Still, this area experienced an extremely wet winter -- record-breaking in some cases."
