Amazing Apple's New iPad Is a Lot Like a Self-Driving Car

Confirming rumors that Apple will soon release its most powerful iPad, the company unveiled a new iPad Pro model this week that takes a leaf from the handbook of the autonomous vehicle industry.

The new iPad Pro not only features triple-lens camera arrays, like the previous year's iPhone 11 Pro, plus the A12Z Bionic chip — which are computationally demanding, such as editing 4K video or designing 3D models a breeze. Do-it-yourself tasks - but its most amazing feature is the addition of an ultra-small LIDAR scanner that provides depth-sensing capability.

You can now order the new iPad Pro on Apple's website, starting at $799 for the 11-inch model and $999 for the 12.9-inch version. These sensors provide a 360-degree view of the car's surroundings by sending out thousands of laser pulses every second.

Lidar, which stands for light detection and ranging, is a technology that the self-driving industry has embraced to augment its sensor arrays, including cameras and radar.

Similar to the concept of echolocation (used by bats), these pulses interact with surrounding objects and bounce back as light reflections, which are then used to create a 3D point cloud. An onboard computer stitches these points together to create a 3D model.

Sensors are critical to Apple's strategy of moving forward. Not only do they show that Apple is serious about depth-sensitivity in its photos and videos, but they also prove that the company is working in more augmented reality functionality - something that has been the future of CEO Tim Cook for some time. Is on the shortlist of comprehensive technologies.

In a press release issued on March 18, Apple stated that the new iPad Pro has been called the worlds best tool for augmented reality. There is even the upcoming Hot Lava AR mode that will transform your living room floor into a floor-a-lava style obstacle course.

Other rumors about the Apple device are still ongoing, though the company has not confirmed any of these details. In the past, Apple has held a new product show in March, but reports say the company has canceled this year's event because supply chain issues after the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, large in Santa Clara County Banning ceremonies where Apple is headquartered.

In the meantime, we've rounded up the most solid leaks to give you a hint about what might be in Apple's pipeline.
