Motor City Casino, MGM Grand Detroit,Greektown Casino and Caesars Windsor to close for at least two weeks
MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casino will stop operations on Monday evening amid the coronavirus outbreak. ROYAL OAK, Mich. Greektown Casino will all close for at least two weeks due the coronavirus crisis beginning Monday.
Based on the Michigan Gaming Control Board’s order, MotorCity Casino will be closing to the general public tomorrow, March 16, 2020 at 12 noon. As of right now, we will be closed for 14 days.
In a letter obtained by 7 Action News to employees, MGM Grand Detroit President and COO David Tsai said they will suspend operations at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16. The hotel will remain open, offering its luxury accommodations to those who need a respite during these unprecedented times.

Governor Whitmer announced the temporary closure last Sunday night. The board does not control the 24 Tribal casinos in Michigan. Some are making their own choices to close or make other changes because of the virus. The order comes from the Gaming Control Board.
Across the Detroit River, Caesar’s Windsor is closing Monday and rescheduling concerts planned there over the next few weeks.
Caesar’s released this statement:
"We expect to remain closed for at least two weeks, and we will be working with the MGCB to reevaluate when we can reopen for business," the letter reads.
The casino confirmed the news shortly after in a statement on social media.
At Caesars Windsor, the health, safety and well-being of our employees and guests are our highest priority. With OLG’s recent announcement, we are working on an orderly shutdown based on the recommendation of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health to temporarily close until further notice.
The shutdown will start with the closure of the gaming floor at 4:00 am Monday, March 16 and will have all hotel guests departing by 12:00 pm Monday, March 16.
Greektown Casino-Hotel will also temporarily suspend operations for two weeks, beginning March 16. The casino will be paying its 1,650 employees during the closure
“Since the coronavirus threat began we have implemented stringent CDC-recommended protocols throughout our enterprise, including increased daily cleaning regimens at our facilities, maximizing air circulation, cancelling or postponing all concerts and live events, and we’re in the process of temporarily closing down buffets, among other initiatives," Penn National Gaming said in a statement.
