Vancouver Restaurant and Bar warns patrons staff member tests positive for COVID-19



Vancouver Coastal Health has issued a warning on Monday to people who visited a downtown restaurant over three days in March when an employee tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus.

The employee worked between 10:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on March 10, 11 and 13. Showcase at the restaurant and bar, which is located at 1122 West Hastings St. inside the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel.

During this time, the person with COVID-19 had mild, non-respiratory symptoms, the health authority said in a news release.

Public health officials have completed a risk assessment and concluded that the risk to people in the restaurant was low at the time, but we are carefully excluding this notification.

Health officials said any possible exposure to the restaurant was prohibited over three days in March. The release stated that there was no risk outside of those dates, or anyone else who went to any other part of the hotel.

The employee is now self-isolated and recovering at home. The case is linked to travel and other known cases previously announced by health officials, who assured “there is no ongoing risk to the community, or at the Showcase Restaurant and Bar.”

The health authority advised those present at the restaurant to monitor the symptoms of the virus for 14 days. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and headache.

As long as those people visited the restaurant, they are healthy and do not develop symptoms, there is no need to self-isolate and they should continue with their daily activities.

If anyone experiences symptoms, they should self-isolate at home and seek medical care of respiratory symptoms worsen.

Meanwhile, the health authority is asking those who attended or worked at the Pacific Dental Conference 2020 at the Vancouver Convention Center on March 22 for self-isolation until March 22.


Vancouver Coastal Health notified the public on March 12 of a case involving the conference. On Monday, the Health Authority announced new cases related to the conference.

The notifications of the Health Authority came on the same day that the Provincial Health Officer Drs. Bonnie Henry issued an order prohibiting all public ceremonies of more than 50 people. Mayor Kennedy Stewart on Monday urged people to order food or online to help reduce the transmission of the virus.
