Motorola Moto G Stylus - 18 April 2020 Release, Full Specifications & Features

Motorola has two new phones out on the market right now. Alongside the Moto G Power, Motorola has also launched the Moto G Stylus in the US market. the Moto G Stylus and the Moto G Power. They both offer compelling deals to users looking for a budget option. The mid-range handset comes equipped with a stylus and aims to attract buyers looking for improved productivity.

As for design and specifications, it is quite similar to the Moto G Power, featuring a punch-hole design, a triple-lens camera unit on the back, and a Snapdragon 665 chip. However, despite many of their advantages, they still fall short of the competition in some key departments.

The Moto G Stylus sports a punch-hole design with an edge-to-edge display, splash-resistant build quality and aluminum frame. On the rear, it has a steep triple camera setup and a physical fingerprint reader.

The phone has a 6.4-inch full-HD + (1080x2300 pixels) LCD screen for stylus input. It comes in the same Mystic Indigo finish.

ET gets the biggest benefit of the two devices. The Moto G Stylus comes with a 4000 mAh battery, while the Moto G Power comes with a larger 5000mAh battery. This means that both these devices can easily run for two days even with regular usage. It is not just the size of the battery that helps them hit that mark. They both sport 6.4-inch 2300 × 1080 IPS panels, which run at regular 60 Hz.

The Moto G Stylus features a triple rear camera setup with a primary 48MP (f / 1.7) sensor, 16MP (f / 2.2) ultra wide lens and a 2MP (f / 2.2) macro camera with LED flash.

On the front, the handset offers a single 16MP (f / 2.0) selfie snapper screen with flash feature.

In addition, the rear camera supports 4K video recording at 30fps, while the front camera records full-HD video at 30fps.

Unlike the latest and largest smartphones that now have a quad HD display with 90, or even 120 Hz refresh rates, the power consumption displayed on both of these devices is not. Combine that with a low-powered yet capable Snapdragon 665 and a modest 4GB of RAM, and you have two devices that can deliver decent performance. They won't blaze fast, but they will get the job done. However, you may have to deal with occasional stutter and long loading times.

The Moto G Stylus draws power from an octa-core Snapdragon 665 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (expandable up to 512GB).The smartphone runs on Android 10 and packs a 4,000mAh battery that supports standard 10W charging. It comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, stereo speakers, dual-SIM 4G support, Bluetooth 5.0, FM radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and a Type-C port.

G stylus and G power charge via USB-C. They do not support any type of fast-charging, but charging via USB-C is fairly quick and reliable anyway. The G stylus, as its name suggests, also comes with a stylus. It doesn't have the fancy features of the Galaxy Note's S-Pen, but it's still as neat a package as this one, cheaply.

Now, however, we come to the elephant in the room for these phones - the cameras. The G stylus has a better rear camera setup. It has 48 MP quad pixel main shooter, 2 MP macro lens and 16 MP action camera. The G Power only has a 16 MP main shooter, the same 2 MP macro lens and 8 MP wide-angle lens.

Performance on the G stylus is much better. Its 16 MP action camera is also very unique. It's skewed by 90 degrees, and you can only take videos with it. This essentially makes it easy to take landscape, wide-angle video while keeping the phone straight.

Pricing and availability

As a pocket-pinch, the Moto G Stylus is priced at $ 299.99 (approximately Rs. 23,000) in the US. However, there is no word on its price and availability in the Indian market.

However, the camera performance of its competitors has to be seen. At $ 300 for the G Stylus and $ 250 for the Motorola G Power, it is playing on the same playground as the Pixel 3A and iPhone SE. Both these devices come for $ 399 and are much better in every department.

The newly announced iPhone SE, in particular, is going to be a tough competitor to beat in this price category. The only thing missing compared to Motorola devices is a headphone jack and expandable storage. It is unlikely that those two characteristics are sufficient for a draw, however.
