Earthquake tremors felt in Rajkot and Gujarat and Jammu & KashmirAn earthquake of magnitude 5.5 struck near Bhuj in Kutch district in Gujarat on Sunday evening. The National Center for Seismology said the epicentre of the earthquake was 118 km north-northwest (NEWS) of Rajkot at 8:13 pm. No injuries or damage to properties have been reported so far.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 on Richter Scale struck Gujarat's Rajkot district on Sunday evening. Several parts of the state including Ahmedabad felt tremors as well.

According to officials, the epicenter of the quake was near Bhachau in Kutch district.According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 8:13 pm tonight in Rajkot, Gujarat, 122 km northwest of Gujarat (NOW).

Heavy tremors were felt in Anjar and Bhachau of Kutch district, where people ran out of their homes. Its effect is also witnessed in the district of Surendranagar, Rajkot and Patan while slight tremors were also felt in Ahmedabad.

“Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had an immediate telephone conversation with the Collectors of Rajkot, Kutch and Patan districts following the tremors in the state,” the Gujarat CMO tweeted.

Gujarat has witnessed three major earthquakes in the past with the most devastating being the one in 2001, another in Anjar in 1956 and the third in 1918 in the Rann of Kutch. The January 26, 2001 Bhuj earthquake, which was of 7.7 magnitude, reportedly killed over 20,000 people and left over 1.5 lakh others injured.

Meanwhile, another earthquake of magnitude 3.0 on Richter Scale occurred in Jammu & Kashmir today evening at 8:35 pm, according to NCS' initial data. The tremors originated 90 km east of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, according to the data.

Earlier, Delhi has felt some mild tremors in the past. Late on June 3, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck Noida. According to the National Center for Seismology, tremors were felt in Delhi and other surrounding areas.

The quake struck the area at 10:42 pm. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter was 19 km southeast of Noida.

This is the third earthquake to hit the Delhi-NCR region within five days. Earlier, on 29 May, two earthquake measuring 4.6 and 2.9 were also recorded in parts of Delhi and areas near Noida and Gurugram.
