MEAC did not play football in 2020

Add MEAC to the list of HBCU and FCS conferences that will not step on the field this season. The presidents and chancellors of the Middle East Athletic Conference Council have decided that he will not play football in 2020, sources tell HBCU Gamede.

Last week, the Ivy League announced that it will not play college football this fall. Roughly eight days later, yet another conference decided to cancel its season.

Student-athletes have been testing positive for at least two MEAC schools, North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M, COVID-19, since returning to campus in July.

We’ve also seen a pair of Division II HBCU conferences – the CIAA and SIAC – shut down their college football seasons due to health concerns.

This is a tough blow for all seniors in the MAN who wanted to end their collegiate careers on a positive note. It could also affect the non-conference games that were scheduled for this season.

This decision comes one week after the two Division II HBCU conference, the CIA and SIAC, announced their decision to shut down football competition for fall 2020. Other FCS conferences, including the Ivy League and the Patriot League, will also sit out the 2020 fall season.

This decision means no MEAC / SWAC Challenge and no Celebration Bowl in 2020.The conference was held to conclude its 50th football season of this year.

Florida A&M had the top record during conference play last season. North Carolina A&T and South Carolina State stood behind Florida A&M.

It’s heartbreaking to hear that MEAC football will not take place this fall, but this is unfortunately our new reality. College football as a whole has entered a state of unknown.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 have already announced that they’ll play conference-only schedules this year. It should allow the conferences to limit travel during these uncertain times.

A final decision from the ACC, Big 12 and SEC should be made by the end of this month.
