Evacuation warning issued for parts of Santa Clara, Alameda counties
Cal Fire issued an evacuation warning on Saturday for parts of Santa Clara and Alameda counties, including Fremont.
An evacuation warning has been issued for eastern unincorporated Alameda County due to increased risk of fire spread as a result of anticipated high winds and scattered thunderstorms forecast for the region.
"This warning is being issued in advance of the weather event because of the remoteness of this area and the limited egress routes, which may be inaccessible should this fire spread as anticipated," according to Cal Fire. "For those with pets or livestock, as well as those with access and functional needs, you are encouraged to leave the area. All others should be prepared to leave if the situation worsens or if they perceive a fire threat."
The warning comes as high winds are expected beginning Sunday morning, raising the risk of the SCU lightning complex fire spreading deeper into more populous Bay Area communities. The warning means residents should be prepared to leave their homes, and precedes a possible evacuation order.
The evacuation warning covers a large swath of eastern Alameda County, stretching from Interstate 580 and the San Joaquin County line to the east to portions of Fremont located east of Mission Boulevard.
The evacuation warning does not include the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton.
The alert covers parts of Fremont east of the Mission Blvd. and Mission Rd. intersection south to the intersection of Mission Blvd and Curtner Rd, and east of Curtner Rd. south along I-680 up to the Santa Clara County line, according to Fremont police.
The warnings go up to but do not include the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton, Cal Fire announced Saturday night.
In eastern Alameda County, the evacuation warning includes all areas east of Mission Boulevard in Fremont between Mission Road and Curtner Road, and south along Interstate 680 to the Santa Clara County line. It also encompasses the region south of the Livermore city limits south of Highway 84 between Vineyard Avenue and Interstate 680.
From there, the evacuation warning includes the rural area of eastern Alameda County, south of Interstate 580 in the Altamont Pass area, and west of Interstate 580 and south of Tracy.
The National Weather Service has also issued a red flag warning from 5 a.m. Sunday through 5 p.m. Monday for the entire Bay Area, with high winds and more dry thunderstorms expected.
For those who need shelter for livestock, contact Alameda County Animal Services at 925-803-7041 to make arrangements for housing.
If a mandatory evacuation order is issued, a Temporary Evacuation Point will be provided, Cal Fire announced.
The SCU Lightning Complex Fire has burned 291,968 and is 10 percent contained, Cal Fire reported Saturday evening.
