Hope train tracks: The derailment of a massive train near Hope, B.C.

There’s been a massive train derailment in B.C.’s Fraser valley. A train has derailed near Hope.

CN Rail said Monday morning that about 20 cars went off the tracks on a bridge near Hunter Creek, just west of Hope.

The company says the derailment happened early Monday morning, with preliminary information indicating “at least 20 railcars carrying potash derailed off of a rail bridge.”

Several cars have ended up in the water.

There are no injuries and no dangerous goods are involved, the company said.

It doesn’t look like anyone’s been hurt in the derailment, and CN says there are also no reports of fires or dangerous goods involved.

“CN would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused by this incident and thanks the first responders present at the scene,” the company says in an email to NEWS.

It’s still unclear what caused the train to derail.

Witnesses tells report they saw a large police presence while driving past the derailment Monday.

“There’s a massive train wreck, like piled up train cars,” one commuter describes. “I mean, it’s a s*** show. We were shocked.”

The derailment is not impacting traffic but is a visual distraction to anyone driving west of Hope by the Hunter Creek exit on Highway 1.

The cars were carrying potash, CN confirmed, which is primarily used as a fertilizer.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
