IPL 2020: Virat Kohli inadvertently violated the Covid-19 protocol of the Internal Cricket Council (ICC).

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli inadvertently applied saliva on the ball after stopping a cracking drive during an Indian Premier League match here on Monday, violating the ICC's COVID-19 protocol.
Fielding at short cover during his team's game against Delhi Capitals, Kohli did not let the ball, that was headed in his direction at a great speed, go past him.

Dubai, October 5 Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli violated the International Cricket Council (ICC) Kovid-19 protocol by accidentally slapping the ball during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Delhi Capitals.

In the match against Delhi at the Dubai International Stadium, Kohli stopped the fast-approaching ball while fielding on the short cover and then applied saliva to it. The incident happened in the third over of Delhi's innings when opener Prithvi Sauv drove the third ball of fast bowler Navdeep Saini.

While the Indian captain did not show any discomfort, he ended up applying saliva on the ball at the Dubai International Stadium. This happened after DC opener Prithvi Shaw launched into a booming drive against pacer Navdeep Saini in the third ball of the third over after Kohli elected to field.

The skipper, though, realised his mistake immediately, smiled and also acknowledged the slip-up by raising his hands.

Amazed at Shaw's powerful shot and Kohli's brilliant fielding, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar promptly put out a tweet in appreciation."What an incredible shot by @PrithviShaw there! A million dollar reaction by @imVkohli after almost applying saliva on the ball. Sometimes instincts take over!" Tendulkar tweeted.

However, Kohli immediately realized his mistake.

Last week, Rajasthan Royals batsman Robin Uthappa slapped the ball while fielding against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The International Cricket Council had banned the use of saliva to shine the ball due to the COVID-19 pandemic in June this year.

The ICC banned the use of saliva to shine the ball in June this year due to the Kovid-19 epidemic.

According to the standard operating procedure of the game, "If the player applies saliva to the ball, the umpire will deal with this situation and will be generous during the initial phase of the players' coordination with this new process but warn the team on such an event further will be given. "

"If a player does apply saliva to the ball, the umpires will manage the situation with some leniency during an initial period of adjustment for the players, but subsequent instances will result in the team receiving a warning," the ICC had stated in its Standard Operating Procedure.

"A team can be issued up to two warnings per innings but repeated use of saliva on the ball will result in a 5-run penalty to the batting side. Whenever saliva is applied to the ball, the umpires will be instructed to clean the ball before play recommenced," the ICC notification read.
