More than 11,000 National Grid customers in Buffalo are without electricity on Friday morning.

As of 9:45 am Friday, there were 11,042 customers without electricity. The customers most affected are North Buffalo in the vicinity of Delaware Park and Buffalo Zoo.

David Bertola, National Grid spokesman, said the bulk of the affected customers were in the area of ​​Hertel Avenue, east of Elmwood Avenue.

On Friday morning, the City of Buffalo issued an alert through its BuffAlert system that the outage was affecting traffic lights on Delaware Avenue between Amherst Street Kenmore Avenue. The city advises drivers to treat intersections with down traffic lights as four-way stops.

The National Grid site said power is expected to be restored by 10 a.m. Friday; The site originally stated that the restoration would take place by 8 pm. Friday.

The Buffalo Police Department tweeted that the outage in North Buffalo has affected several traffic signals, including Delaware Avenue between Amherst Street and Kenmore Avenue.

Wegmans of 601 Amherst Street was part of the outage area. A store representative said the store remains open.

11,629 Buffalo (119,510) without power represent less than 10% of total national grid customers.
